This website is hosted by the New York State Water Resources Institute at Cornell University, in support of the New York State Dam Removal Community of Practice. The website seeks to provide general information to New Yorkers about dam removal, and why removing aging, unused dams can be beneficial to dam owners, communities, and the environment.

Dam location data is sourced from publicly available datasets hosted by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the National Barrier Inventory, and the American Rivers Removed Dams database. The presence or absence of a dam in this map does not indicate current use or regulatory status.
